Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals Rules Man Exempt From Uninsured Coverage

An employee involved in an auto accident while riding in a company vehicle was lawfully excluded from collecting benefits under the company's uninsured motorist coverage, the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals ruled last week. Because the worker had auto insurance on his own personal vehicle, he was excluded from the company's uninsured motorist coverage under a provision written into the employer's policy. Though the worker charged that the exception violates the legislative intent of the law requiring employers to ensure company vehicles, the court found that parties to insurance contracts are free to write those contracts as they see fit.

How much insurance coverage do I need

A majority of drivers purchase a basic policy to meet the state's insurance requirements. While this may be enough to get you driving on the road, the minimum requirements in most states only provides liability insurance to pay for damages to the driver you hit in an accident. Liability insurance does not offer any protection for damages you incur to your own person and property. When you are involved in an accident, many things are affected including your family, financial assets like your house, as well as your own vehicle. Getting the right coverage can help protect your family and your assests.
